Kitchen Commons Internships
Kitchen Commons Seeks Summer/Fall 2015 Interns!
Kitchen Commons builds community around food, promotes the benefits and joys of cooking together, and works to make healthy meals affordable and practical for all. We support a network of Community Kitchens and their grassroots leaders through training and resources, and help organizations with kitchens put them to full use serving community needs.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Kitchen Directory Intern and an Events & Outreach Intern. Ideal candidates will be able to start by 6/15/2015 and work through 12/15/15. Each intern will receive a $250 stipend, half paid at the one-month check-in and half paid at the end of the internship. Interns should expect to work 10 hours per week, with additional hours as necessary especially during event weeks. Daily schedule will often be flexible, with some evenings and weekends required, and at least one regular weekly time for shared “office hours”. Interns can also arrange to receive course credit.
We will review applications as they are received and begin scheduling interviews, with priority given to applications received by June 5th, 2015. Please send a letter of interest (attached as a PDF with your name in the document title) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your letter should include which position(s) you are interested in and a description of your background and qualifications. For more information, visit www.kitchencommons.net or call 503-866-2939.
The Kitchen Directory Intern will be responsible for coordinating a project in collaboration with the Multnomah County Health Department to verify information about certified commissary kitchens that are available for rent. The outcome will be a page on the Kitchen Commons website listing up-to-date information about these kitchens. The Kitchen Directory Intern will also continue Kitchen Commons’ work of researching underutilized kitchens that could be opened up for community use, such as congregations and community centers. Kitchen Commons currently has two Kitchen Directories (for NE and North Portland) and the intern will help to update and improve these directories as well as our Master Community Kitchen List.
The Events & Outreach Intern will serve as the project manager the 2015 Harvest Dinner in October and support the implementation of community outreach and fundraising efforts as a member of the Kitchen Commons Fundraising Committee. Key responsibilities include recruiting and coordinating event volunteers, organizing outreach and promotion efforts such as community tabling and restaurant percent-of-sale donation nights, co-leading the planning and evaluation for community meetings and events, and helping to develop the 2016 events and fundraising calendar and workplan.
