October 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am - October 22, 2019 @ 3:00 pm

$70

October 21, 9am-4pm and Oct 22, 9am-3pm

(Both days required!)

OSU Deschutes Extension Office, Redmond

Even if your farm or operation isn’t covered by the FDA Produce Safety Rule rule (check here!) this low-cost, up-to-the-minute training is a great opportunity for anyone growing, harvesting or handling covered produce.

As a reminder, the PSA Grower Training Course is currently the only way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’

What to Expect at the PSA Grower Training Course

  • Instruction by certified Produce Safety Alliance trainers
  • Agriculture Water Workshop: water sampling, data analysis, and water quality profiles.
  • Certificate of course completion ($35 value)
  • PSA Grower Training manual ($65 value)
  • A light breakfast, lunch, and snacks

You must fully attend both days to receive the certificate!  On the first day, the trainers will spend approximately 7 hours of instruction time covering an introduction to Produce Safety, Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training, Soil Amendments, Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use, Postharvest Handling and Sanitation, and How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan.  On the second day, the trainers will spend approximately 5 hours of instruction time covering Agricultural Water for Production and Postharvest, and an Interactive Water Workshop that includes a Personalized Water Quality Report, Statistical Threshold Value (STV) and Geometric Mean (GM) Calculation, Sampling and Testing Methods, and Microbial Water Quality Profile (MWQP) Development.

Your Instructors:

  • Sue Davis, Oregon Department of Agriculture Produce Safety Development
  • Sara Runkel, Assistant Professor of Practice, Department of Horticulture, Oregon State University
  • Joy Waite-Cusic, Associate Professor of Food Safety Systems at Oregon State University
