Americorps: Rogue Valley Farm to School
Rogue Valley Farm to School has two part-time AmeriCorps positions available starting this September. Please spread the word to anyone interested in working with students, schools and farms to make a healthy food environment for our community!
Nutrition Educator: The Nutrition Educator will be responsible for leading educational activities related to nutrition, health and farming at educational farm sites during the Harvest Meal program. Activities will include practical knowledge of food production and harvest, post-harvest handling, food safety, as well as the nutritional importance of specific fruits and vegetables, and making healthy diet choices. The Nutrition Educator will recruit, train and mentor volunteers to assist in the Harvest Meal program. The Nutrition Educator is a part-time position, working 25-30 hours per week in the fall, spring and summer and 2-5 hours per week in the winter.
Tasting Table Coordinator: The Tasting Table Coordinator (TTC) will be responsible for implementing the RVF2S Tasting Table program. Tasting Tables offer samples of locally procured, seasonal produce items prepared two different ways to students in the school cafeteria during lunchtime. Nutrition information and recipes are provided for students to take home. Lessons about the featured items are provided to classroom teachers. The TTC will offer ten Tasting Tables each month at elementary schools in three school districts. Activities will include food preparation, offering samples to students, recipe creation, nutrition information compilation, and coordination with school administrators, teachers, kitchen staff and farmers. The TTC will recruit, train and mentor volunteers to assist in the Tasting Table program. The TTC is a part-time position, working approximately 24 hours per week from September-June.
Compensation: Part-time AmeriCorps members receive an education award of $2,865 and a stipend of up to $6,265 over the course of 10-months.
